We have got a lot of mouths to feed around our table, so having delicious go-to recipes is a must for me! This is exactly why I have some go-to recipes in my back pocket to whip out anytime I need. If I am looking to cook something up that I won’t hear a single complaint about from my husband or kids, my Polynesian Flat Iron Steak gets the job done.
My Favorite Flat Iron Steak Recipe (+ why I order steaks online)
Why I Order My Steaks Online
This year, I am dedicated to buying higher quality meats and dairy. This means you might see a little less of these things on our table, but when you do you can bet it’s going to be the best quality. For this reason, I almost always order steak online from Omaha Steaks. Their flat iron steak arrives flavorful and tender with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. So, the real question here should be, why wouldn’t I order steak online? With online butchers like Omaha Steaks, who I fully trust to deliver me delicious high-quality meat, there is no reason not to.
Not everybody is a steak person, and that’s okay! Honestly, I’m not even always a steak person. Luckily, Omaha Steaks has so many other options. You can order chicken online from them or seafood! One of my favorite lean protein options to substitute into this recipe is Chilean Sea Bass, which goes perfectly with this marinade. I also love the Omaha Steak Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon, which we love to grill on planks. You could get really wild with a little surf and turf, too! The Argentinian Red Shrimp is one of my personal favorites and the kids could eat it endlessly if I let them.
My Polynesian Flat Iron Steak Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 ½ pound of Omaha Flat Iron Steak (or lean protein of your choice)
- Olive Oil Cooking Spray
Marinade Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- ⅓ cup of soy sauce (I substitute Coconut Aminos!)
- ⅓ cup pineapple juice
- ¼ cup of sliced green onions
- 1 tablespoon of minced ginger
- 1 minced garlic clove
- optional- fresh pineapple rings to serve on the side (we love to grill these)
Step 1
Combine the marinade ingredients in a Re-usable Marinator or zip lock bag. Add steak, seal it up, and let it marinate in the refrigerator for 3 hours flipping once halfway through.
Step 2
Prepare your grill to medium-high heat (approximately 400 degrees). Once hot coat the rack with cooking spray.
Step 3
Remove steak from the container while reserving marinade for later use. Grill the steaks over direct heat for 5-7 minutes per side, until they reach an internal temperature of 130 degrees for medium-rare. Baste frequently with reserved marinade.
Step 4
Take the steak off the grill and let rest for 10 minutes. Cut diagonally across the grain into thin slices and serve along with the Herbed Basmati Rice below and grilled pineapple rings.
Don’t Forget the Sides- Our Favorite Herbed Basmati Rice!
I love to serve these yummy flank steaks with flavorful herbed basmati rice. They just hold up to each other so well and give you the perfect mix of flavors.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon of olive oil
- 1 cup of uncooked Basmati Rice
- 2 cups of chicken broth
- ¼ cup green onions (chopped)
- ¼ cup of toasted pine nuts
- 3 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
- 1 minced garlic clove
- 1 tbsp fresh basil (chopped)
- 1 teaspoon of thyme
- ¼ teaspoon of salt
- Black Pepper to taste
How to Make Herbed Basmati Rice
Heat the olive oil in a well-coated skillet over medium-high heat. Saute garlic in the pan, then add in the rice. Cook for 2 minutes or until lightly toasted. Add the broth and salt to the pan. Bring this to a boil, then reduce the heat and cover. Let simmer until the liquid is mostly absorbed, about 18 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in pine nuts, green onions, Parmesan cheese, pepper, thyme, and basil.
Serve with a sprinkle of the leftover green onions on top!
Trust me, I never would have guessed that I would be the person buying meat online, but I tried Omaha Steaks once and I was absolutely hooked. They consistently deliver high-quality meat and fish right to our door. It’s like having our own amazing local butcher and because everything is flash-frozen and individually sealed it helps prevent waste as well. And, I’m not kidding when I say this Polynesian Flat Iron Steak ends up on our table at least once a month. It is a killer recipe!
