As a coffee lover, I absolutely LOVE Starbucks and their delicious coffee drinks. One of my all-time favorites is their White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino, which always hits the spot when I need a little pick-me-up. But sometimes, I don’t have the time or money to make a trip to my local Starbucks, so I decided to create my own DIY Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino version of this iconic drink.
This Starbucks copycat recipe is a marriage of two delicious classics into one frozen concoction: the White Chocolate Mocha recipe and the Mocha Frappuccino. The rich Frappuccino roast and sweet white chocolate sauce are a pretty irresistible pairing, and it can be tempting to swing by Starbucks to get one whenever you are in need of a caffeine boost.
However, the cost of this specialty drink can add up over time. Try your hand at making one in your own kitchen- you may be surprised by how much money you save, and how good it tastes! Read on for both our Copycat DIY Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino recipe and a healthier version.
DIY Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino at Home
This DIY has a few more steps than some other Starbucks drinks, but it is so worth it!
When you order a White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino at Starbucks, they start with your choice of milk base. Unless you specify otherwise, they will make any Frappuccino with whole milk, which is perfect for creating a creamy texture but not the best if you’re watching your calories.
You can opt for skim milk, coconut milk, soy milk, or other option to make it slightly better for you.
Next, they add the “Frappuccino roast”, which is the coffee component of the drink. This provides the coffee flavoring as well as the caffeine!
When you order a decaf Frappuccino, they will often simply replace it with decaf coffee instead of the Frappuccino roast. Then comes a few pumps of white chocolate mocha sauce. After all of the ingredients are added to the blender, they add ice and blend it all together. The frappe is topped with whipped cream and served!
Tips for Healthy Swaps at Home
When making a Frappuccino at home, you may be a bit limited in your access to special ingredients such as Frappuccino roast or white chocolate mocha sauce, so you’ll have to use some substitutions and whip up a couple of your own ingredients.
Luckily, we have selected some perfect swaps that will help you make a delicious frappe from the comfort of your kitchen!
Now for a healthy twist on a Frappuccino, it’s a bit harder to replicate the exact flavor of the Starbucks creations. And to be honest, there isn’t really a substitute for white chocolate that will retain its delicious taste. But the easiest swap to make is also the highest calorie component of the drink- the milk!
This table provides a breakdown of some of the various options that you can use to customize your DIY Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino! Not to mention you’ll be saving money because you can get 2-3 drinks (or more!) out of one of these gallons of milk.
Milk Type | Calories/1 cup Serving | Average Cost |
Whole milk | 150 cal. | $2.19/gallon |
2% milk | 120 cal. | $2.19/gallon |
Skim milk | 80 cal. | $2.19/gallon |
Soy milk | 100 cal. | $3.99/half gallon |
Almond milk | 60 cal. | $3.99/gallon |
Oat milk | 90 cal. | $5.29/half gallon |
Note, I have also heard of using heavy cream as a base to make the drink even thicker and richer for the milk mixture. And now, on to the recipes!
